Bulletproof® MCT Oil Review
I know you want to get your hands on some MCT Oil. Fantastic!
Here is the kind of detail Dave Asprey goes into when making his own version of MCT Oil from palm oil and coconut oil:
- No metal catalysts are used during manufacturing,
- Every batch of Upgraded™ MCT is tested for heavy metals,
- Perfect 8-10 carbon saturated fat level,
- BPA-free plastic bottle,
- GMO-free, aflatoxin-free, BSE/TSE-free, melamine-free.
Dave has studied and learnt best food manufacturing practices and where other brands might take short cuts. Isn’t great he has looked into how to make the purest MCT oil product around.
FAQ’S About MCT Oil
What Does MCT Oil Taste Like?
It is pretty tasteless, some have described it as bland. I feel it is a smooth taste that doesn’t linger and might have an extremely mild taste that doesn’t taste like coconut at all.
Is Coconut Oil The Same As MCT Oil?
No, it is not. Coconut oil contains about 60% of the medium chain fatty acids whereas pure MCT oil is 100% of the stuff you want. The stuff you want is caprylic acid (C8) and capric acid (C10).
What are Free Fatty Acids?
A fatty acid is a carboxylic acid with a long aliphatic chain. It can be either saturated or unsaturated fat. Fatty acids are an important sources of fuel for the body. This is because, when metabolized, they yield large quantities of ATP. This is the stuff you want your mitrochondria in your cells to be making.
Does the Body Store it as Fat?
No it doesn’t. Our bodies have two choices: either metabolize the oil for energy quickly by breaking it down in the liver into ketones, or, to excrete it through the gastrointestinal tract.
Will it Raise My Cholesterol?
Studies have shown consuming medium chain fatty acids helps to maintain healthy cholesterol levels*.
Can I Cook With MCT Oil?
Yes! MCT oil is a suitable cooking oil to be used at temperatures under 320° F or 160° C. Even better is to add MCT oil into dishes and recipes recommended on the Bulletproof Diet after you have cooked them.
Are There Any Side-Effects?
Yes you could experience “disaster pants” 🙂 If your body hasn’t been used to digesting fats then having spoonfuls or free pouring into your Bulletproof coffee could cause you to experience stomach ache or diarrhea. Best to start off 1 tablespoon per day and increase over time.
